The Efficacy and Tolerability of Iron Proteinsuccinylate(Hemo-Q^(®)) in the Treatment of Iron Deficiency Anemia in Pregnant Women

Abstract
|
|
|
To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of a new iron compound: Iron Proteinsuccinylate(Hemo-Q®), forty women with iron deficiency anemia from obstetric etiology were treated for 2 months at a dose of 15 ml twice a day. At the end of this trial, iron proteinsuccinylate induced a significant increases in the main hematologic values, i.e., hemoglobin (8.76 ± 1.00 versus 1.12 ± 1.12 g/dL), hematocrit (27.87 ± 3.14 versus 32.27 ± 3.12 %), serum iron (21.00 ± 6.13 versus 64.44 ± 9.93 μg/dL) and ferritin (6.83 ± 0.57 versus 12.70 ± 2.87 g/dL) level. A few side effects were noted, which occurred in 7.5 % of patients.
This study suggests that iron proteinsuccinylate is well tolerated and proven to bring about the normalization of iron deficiency condition. It can be a valid iron supplementary drug in the oral treatment of anemia during pregnancy.
